Where It All Began: The Story Behind the Sahar Burner

Hi, HalliHallo, and Assalamu alaykum

I'm Conny, the founder of MINKO HOME, and today I want to share the story of how this journey began... with one quiet, intentional piece: the Saher Burner.

A few years ago, I was trying to find a bukhoor burner that felt right for my home. Something elegant but not flashy. Moderns, but still grounded in culture.

Most of what I came across felt overly decorative - too gold, too shiny, too bulky - or came with a price tag that just didn't make sense for everyday living.

"Why is it so hard to find something minimal, something soft, something timeless that still reflects me, my space, my culture?"

That simple question stayed with me. So I began experimenting.

What I really wanted was a piece that could be left out all the time - like part of the decor. Not just something functional, but something beautiful in its own quiet way.

That's when I came up with/ designed the first version of Sahar. A clean, sculptural jar with a soft silhouette and a removable  metal dome burner. Nothing flashy. Just timeless. Intentional. Something I felt proud to place in my home - whether I was using it or not.

But Sahar wasn't just the first piece I made... it also carries deep personal meaning.

I named it after my first daughter, Saher. There's something about this design - the calm strength, the feminine presence, the simplicity - that reminded me of her.

It holds a softness that isn't fragile. It feels rooted in culture, but also modern and quiet. That's what I wanted to express - in a piece that could live with you and grow with you.

At the time, I wasn't planning to start a business. I was simply making something I couldn't find anywhere else.

But when I saw how Sahar came to life - how it looked, how it felt - I just knew... I couldn't be the only one craving this kind of beauty. Something handmade, meaningful, and still practical. That's where MINKO truly began.

🌿 More Than a Burner

Sahar isn't just for burning bukhoor or incense.

The removable dome means it can be styled and repurposed too:

  • Use it for cotton pads on your vanity
  • Store pens and brushes on your desk
  • keep crochet hooks or sewing bits in your crafting corner
  • Or simply display it on a shelf as a soft, sculptural accent.

It's a piece that lives with you - part of your rituals, your moments, your space.

So yes... That's where it all began. With a quiet question. A handmade piece. A daughter's name. And a desire to bring more meaning into the everyday.
